I am deeply interested in anything that helps in underatanding the world better,no matter the topic -physics, maths, sociology, philisophy, economics, finance or politics or anything else. What are some of the greatest books you read that helped you underatand something the way you never understood before or built clarity for you on the topic. My personal favorites are Sean Carrol's Greatest Ideas in the Universe series, Dawkin's The Selfish Gene, Kanheman's Thinking Fast and Slow.

A family member swears by the Mark Kurlansky books. Each book looks at one thing, e.g. salt, but I think they really explain the history, economics, world relations, etc. connected to that thing. I haven’t read them myself.
