Reddit, please help. I'm after a modern-ish (so, recent, both in setting and in publication date) fiction adventure book that is not speculative in any way. It's for a present.
The person said they liked The Beach for the "thrill" factor.
They aren't fond of historical fiction so nothing too old, please.
My first thought was Aubrey Maturin, or Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead.
From what I understand they want more of an adventure as opposed to a domestic thriller.
