    Hi all!

I’m looking for a book recommendation that feels similar to Jacob Geller’s video essay titled "Who’s Afraid of Modern Art: Vandalism, Video Games, and Fascism" (on YouTube). It's my favorite YouTube video, I frequently rewatch it, and would love a book about the topic.

Ideally, it would include discussion on:

    • modern and/or contemporary art
    • public backlash, vandalism, and “this isn’t art” reactions/aversion
    • politics and ideology (especially authoritarian or fascist reactions, but anything related to censorship works)
    • broader discourse on how present and future clash with the past, including how newer forms of media like video games can get dismissed or attacked, although this isn't really too necessary, I can do without it.

I’m not necessarily looking for an art history textbook — more something essay-like (like the video) or accessible that explores why people fear or attack certain kinds of art, and how that connects to power, politics, and culture in a broader context.

I would prefer nonfiction, but I’m open to theory and cultural criticism, or maybe even narrative history if it fits, although I'm not sure that exists.

    Thanks in advance!
