A few older gentlemen I come across today, often complain, distrust a lot, seem too selfish at times, are not happy with the lives they built, and seem to always have something to criticize.

I am now 33. Is there a book on how to avoid becoming this perhaps unsatisfied with life grumpy old man later in my life?

    1. maybe start educating your character with, at first, some easy philosophy like Stoicism, The Enchiridion by Epictetus or Epicurus or Marc Aurel, check the Daodejing and the Zhuangzi and eg Schopenhauer’s Wisdom of Life, all some fun and easy and esp edifying reads.

    2. I think just reading a wide variety of fiction books will help you to develop empathy toward others and gratitude about your own life. Don’t just read “guy books.” Read books by women authors, books about immigrants, books about LGBT+, books about people living all over the world, etc.

My mom read about 150 novels per year, and I think it really helped her to learn empathy. She was a very difficult person when I was growing up, but she mellowed considerably in old age.
