Hi all,
A friend of mine has a birthday coming up and mentioned to me that she wants to read more about connecting with nature so I thought braiding sweetgrass would be a nice gift.
One of my favourite books is the Demon in the Freezer by Robert Preston and I was thinking if there was a similiar book that deals with health implications from intrusions on the environment it would be a nice pairing as a gift. I've seen The Spillover by David Quammen as a possibility, but its a bit older at this point.
All suggestions welcome, or of theres a slightly different themed book somebody thinks could go well.

Atlas Obscura
A Sand County Almanac
“This is Your Mind on Plants.”
Maybe: Under a White Sky by Elizabeth Kolbert? Not sure if that’s quite right, but could fit.
I’d still also recommend Spillover – I read it post-COVID and it still felt very relevant.
Bringing Nature Home by Doug Tallamy
How to Love a Forest by Ethan Tapper
Robin Wall Kimmerer’s other book, The Serviceberry is also absolutely wonderful. I read it this summer as part of my library’s summer reading program that focused on the environment and I really enjoyed it.
If your friend likes poetry, Nature Poem by Tommy Pico could be interesting! I read this around that same time, it’s written by a queer indigenous author and grapples with connection to nature after being raised in the city.
If your friend is on TikTok, they may be familiar with Poets Square Cats – the creator became involved in the feral cat TNR community in her city after moving into an apartment and finding out there was a colony of feral cats living there. She wrote a memoir that came out earlier this year, just called Poets Square, and it was lovely.
