I am NOT looking for books such as This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. Or any book that is self help. I’m just looking for a good story where I can relate to the main character. An example of the kind of book I’m looking for would be Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. Dan Torrence is an alcoholic who works the 12 steps in AA but the main focus of the story is not about him being an alcoholic.
Thank you in advance 🙏

Unknown Man #89 by Elmore Leonard is a good one.
Augustine Burroughs – running with scissors
Colton Gentry’s Third Act by Jeff Zentner – at the beginning of the book the title character has a very public meltdown that wrecks his career and marriage so he enters a rehab clinic and later moves back to his childhood hometown to try to put his life back together. There are several later scenes where his ongoing recovery plays a critical part. Fair warning – I’ve recommended this book several times in response to relevant romance genre requests so if you’re not at all interested in that you might not like this one.
The Outrun by Amy Liptrot, one of my absolute favourite reads this year
A poetry suggestion: Calling a Wolf a Wolf by Kaveh Akbar.
It’s a short story but F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Babylon Revisited” is about a former alcoholic who only has “one drink” a day.
It’s a very good story.
