    Hi folks,

I'm trying to read more historical fiction in 2026.

I've been devouring Ken Follett's The Evening and the Morning the past few days. I plan on reading Pillars of the Earth and maybe continuing his Kingsbridge series after that.

I also have Hillary Mantel's Wolf Hall on deck for early 2026. I'm looking for other recommendations.

I tend to like medieval and Renaissance era stuff. Big fan of anything to do with Christianity and Catholicism and how it intersects with society and power structures. Generally I prefer more stylistic prose (Follett is a bit more straightforward than I usually prefer, but his writing is still pretty captivating).

    Looking forward to your recommendations.

Cecilia Holland writes excellent historical novels. Here’s a few of my favorites:

      The Lords of Vaumartin.

      Great Maria.

      The Belt of Gold.

      City of God.
