I am looking for a book that is essentially a group adventure / a party quest. Something similar in structure to Stranger Things or a D&D campaign.
I have tried Dungeon Crawler Carl (audiobook) and while I like many aspects of it (the humour, and the dynamic between Carl and Donut), I've found it very repetitive. I'm midway through book 4, and I'm struggling to see how it can possibly be 8 books long. I also think that, outside of Carl, Donut and Mordecai, the characters are very meh.
On that note, I dont mind a book that's 3-4 books long, but I cant be dealing with 8.
I enjoy character development, character relationship development, and a sense of adventure and danger. If there's some reflection from the characters and/or a redemption/growth arc, that's a nice bonus.
I'm not so fussy about setting. I'd say that sci-fi, post apocalyptic, and alternate reality if I had to narrow it down, but I'm open to trying any setting.
I'm an inexperienced reader. I have read probably 10 books total my whole life. But I want to spend less time playing video games and diversify my activities.
Thanks in advance!
