Lately I've been reading a Mexican history book that covers from the Independence period to the early 1900s. Usually, when I read history books, I like to read literature from the same period covered to better understand the cultural context that a lot of strict history books can't capture. However, I have to admit I know very little about Mexican literature, much less about ones that are set anywhere between the 1820s-1900. I would love recommendations for some famous books (or not so famous if you think it's great at showing how the culture was at the time) published around then if possible. I don't speak Spanish, so please be books that have English translations if possible.
