I want to understand more about the fictional book writing process so I would love to see something like an initial outline/sketch so I can compare it with the final result.
For example, do authors start with a starting point and the desired outcome, then fill in the steps in the middle? Or do they just have a starting point and the outcome is often a discovery for the author as well?

The original three-page outline for *A Song of Ice and Fire* [leaked a few years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/gameofthrones/comments/6nq2ti/main_spoilers_original_3page_outline_by_george_rr/), back when it was supposed to be a trilogy.
I think you should start by getting a few books on creative writing. There’s loads out there.
I’ve not read this one but the ‘for Dummies’ series is quite good usually

different writers do it different ways
for instance John Irving won’t start writing a novel until he knows the last line, Stephen King is more drug-fuelled stream of consciousness
