so, due to several circumstances (barnes and noble closing sale, really good sales, gifts, etc) I have acquired a high physical TBR. because of this, I plan to go on a book buying ban for a bit until I get that number down. exceptions to the ban are new releases, special editions of books I love (thank you, captive prince box set coming out next year), or REALLY good sales (like owlcrate’s Black Friday sale, that was glorious and part of why my TBR is so high right now)
I already lowkey broke and bought some danmei novels because my library doesn’t have them and it was cheaper to buy one extra than pay shipping (sigh) so I’m currently +3 on my physical TBR as of today. (tho, technically I didn’t buy one one of them, my fiance did as a christmas gift! it was a gift so it doesn’t count) but! I just finished 3 on my physical TBR this week and am starting two others tomorrow, so small mercies?
ANYWAYS. is anyone else joining me in (hopefully) not buying anymore books for a while?

I say so every year, and every year I fail.
No because I’m addicted. The good thing is I go to the Hay Festival every year, and in the town (Hay-on-Wye, in England/Wales) there are loads of second hand book shops so at least it’s cheap.
I’m pretty much at the point where I only buy physical books after I’ve read them in another format and know I want them on my shelves. I don’t have room for much else.
I strongly lean on my local library most years, so kinda?
No. When I run out of room for books, I give them away or loan them to others or sell them on ebay etc. The trick is to focus on sharing the wealth.
If no one buys books, then bookstores fail to prosper.
Buying books and reading books are separate hobbies — I buy books to support my favourite authors and bookstores. Yes I have a horrendously high TBR but I’m not going to stop just because I haven’t read most of the books I own.
I have an entire bookcase of TBR books, some shelves stacked two rows deep. I need to stop acquiring more until I read at least a full shelf of my TBR library.
Nope. … I don’t just buy lots of books anyway. I put them all on my Amazon buy later list, and WHEN I have the time for them, I buy them.
Lol no.
Y’all are insane people
If you love books, buy more.
Who fucking cares?
I think I will be having a more conservative approach to book buying next year. Doing research, reading reviews, recommendations from friends etc. Not really just walking into bookstores and browsing.
I’ve been on a book buying ban for quite some time. Many of the books I read are either from the library or on Kindle whenever a book is free for a limited time.
See, I keep telling myself this. Then I find an independent bookstore and I can’t NOT buy something.
