Looking for a book that feels like a sci-fi/horror/immersive sim video game (running from monsters, breaking into abandoned rooms, slowly piecing together what happened from random emails and diary entries, etc)

Pretty much title. I'm enjoying a Let's Play of one of those kind of games (Routine), and I've enjoyed similar games in the past, like Bioshock, System Shock, Dead Space, and so on. So I'm looking for a book that is similar. Something scary, with a mostly isolated protagonist, preferring to sneak or run than face things head on, and slowly figuring out what happened to whatever place they are stuck in.

One thing I'm NOT looking for is litRPG. I know I'm pretty much asking for "Video game tropes but in a book," but I don't want anything that is so blatant about the mash up that the protagonist literally levels up or unlocks new powers from a skill tree.
