Happy New year! 40F located in United states here…We are traveling to Marrakech and the atlas mountains in March and I don't know much about the area/region..looking for a book (fiction) with good plot and character development that will give a great sense of the places. Does not have to be current times, historical totally fine. Examples of books I loved that did this –outlander (Scottish high lands), demon copperhead (appalachia), poisonwood bible (congo), don't let's go to the dogs tonight (Zimbabwe/Rhodesia). Thank you!

Not specifically Marrakech, but The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles is a roller-coaster read set in North Africa. Highly recommend.
The Caliph”s House. Not in Marakesh, in Casablanca
Hideous kinky
Yeah, more travel literature than fiction, but I much enjoyed Paul Bowles- Travels 1950-93, they, to a large part, are set in Morocco, also contain some hilarious anecdotes and adventures from back then.
Also not in Marrakesh, but Tangerine by Christine Mangan is set in Tangiers.
