I like Grady Hendrix-a unique blend of horror and comedy. My Best Friend’s Exorcism, Horrorstor, and How to Sell a Haunted House are my favorites.
It would also be a fit in some ways. There is great character development and the kids are about the same age as at the start of ST. It’s also set in the past, though a different time than ST. It’s a beastly long book. If you don’t have the patience, Stephen Webber is an amazing narrator and the book flies by!
