    Romance doesn't necessarily have to be the main theme, but I'd like to see a deep exploration of the characters and their relationships. I know the love triangle is often a much-criticized trope, but it's one of the things that usually hooks me in stories. What I don't like is when it's too obvious how the triangle will end.

    1. Babylonia by Costanza Casati: the only decent love triangle I think I’ve ever read. Don’t read anything historical if you don’t want it spoiled lol
