I want a travel book. Like Indiana Jones… but not really.

My favorite part of those movies is when they arrive to a new exotic location and it spends a few moments showing off the landscape and culture.

I want a book that’s basically JUST that.

I don’t actually enjoy the temples and shootouts that much. (Though chase scenes and shootouts are always fun I guess)

Travel memoirs tend to have a bunch of self reflection (getting over a divorce, or dealing with grief, or learning to love again)… I don’t give a shit about that.

In fact… personally I’d prefer no character at all. Written in second person.

“YOU smell the spice of the bazaar. YOU feel the desert sun on your skin” etc.

(But that’s not a hard requirement)

Also… I want a globe trotting adventure. Not a book long deep dive into ONE country. Like Bill Brysons books.

I want exotic locations. The Middle East, Southeast Asia, India, Africa etc.

Basically… Indiana Jones without all the treasure hunting.

TLDR; I want a book that travels the world to exotic locations…

    multiple locations over the globe.

Doesn’t have to be a true story, though can be.

Isn’t a character study or a self reflection journey.

Is a lighthearted adventure through multiple cultures.

    Any recommendations is appreciated. Thanks

City of djinn by William dalrymple! A lovely travelogue of Delhi India. He’s in the story but it’s not like a personal journey. It’s light but evocative
