I am looking for book recs for a friend! She is having trouble finding things she wants to read and part of the trouble is she has a very specific type of book she wants to read right now. This is what she said:
"I like stories about people figuring out how to be good people in complex, extreme circumstances."

I love this book so much. A very normal dude finds himself in a very rough situation.
If she likes mysteries and has any interest in history, the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr is all about this. It follows a P.I in nazi Germany who tries to stay good despite all the evil being done around him, including by the people he works for.
