Question! I have not read any Dostoevsky yet and I’m trying to figure out which I want to start with. I’m in between the idiot, crime and punishment, and the brothers Karamazov.
I would start with a couple or few of his smaller works like: white nights, notes from underground, dreams of a ridiculous man, or the house of the dead.
As sort of a warm up or appetizer to those bigger chonkier works. It will give you some pretense too on his mindset and how he has progressed.

Crime and Punishment is a great starting point I think. After that he was to famous to be edited!
