Please could I have suggestions of a book from a genre I haven't read?

My local library has a reading challenge for adults and while I have plans for most of the themes, I am really struggling with 'A genre you haven't read before.' This is a repeated theme from last year's challenge, which again, I struggled with (I finally settled for In Cold Blood as 'True Crime').

I read pretty widely, which is why this one is so tricky!

    – I am open to sub-genres

    – My back-up genre is based on 'only read one book from this genre' which includes Westerns and the 'Great American Novel'

    Genres I have read include:

    – Fantasy and most of its sub-genres

    – Sci-Fi

    – Romance

    – Historic Fiction

    – Horror

    – Thriller

    – Crime

    – Classics

    – Literary fiction

    – Biography

    – A wide range of non-fiction, including true-crime

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

War Memoirs — these are some of my favorites:

      * *With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa* by E.B. Sledge, CPL, 1st Mar. Div., U.S.M.C.
      * *The Forgotten Soldier* by Guy Sajer, Großdeutschland Division, Wehrmacht (considered a classic).
      * *The Battle for Burma: The Wild Green Earth* by BG Bernard Fergusson, KT, GCMG, GCVO, DSO, OBE, 16th Infantry Brigade (Chindit).
      * *Ray Parkin’s Wartime Trilogy: Out of the Smoke; Into the Smother; The Sword and the Blossom* by Ray Parkin, Chief Petty Officer, H.M.A.S. *Perth*, Royal Australian Navy.
      * *Three Corvettes* by Nicholas Monsarrat, LtCdr, FRSL RNVR.
      * *Japanese Destroyer Captain* by Tameichi Hara, CPT, IJN, Fred Saito and Roger Pineau.
      * *The Cretan Runner: The Story of the German Occupation* by Giórgos Psychountákis, Cretan Resistance Fighter.

What about a graphic novel? So many great ones it’s tricky to make a suggestion without knowing what you like, but here’s a few to consider: Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Fun Home by Alison Bechdel, Heimat by Nora Krug, Alison by Lizzy Stewart, Heartstopper by Alice Oseman, Tamara Drewe by Posy Simmonds, Ducks by Kate Beaton
