I’ve got a 16-hour flight coming up and need a thick book I can really get lost in. Anyone have recommendations for a page-turner that’ll help the hours pass? Looking for something immersive and hard to put down!

    1. Here are some options.
      Falling,

      Drowning,

Worst Case Scenario all by TJ Newman.

      Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk,

      Sky Daddy by Kate Folk.

I found both Hild and Menewood by Nicola Griffith really engrossing, and they’re definitely long! They do have quite a lot of detail, so I wouldn’t choose them if you’re bothered by excessive descriptions, but there’s also a ton of plot.

I also remember binge reading Kushiel’s Dart and the rest of that trilogy pretty quickly. They’re really incredible alternate history fantasy with a romance subplot and lots of interesting thematic elements and memorable characters. There is some explicit content, including elements of sadomasochism, and the third book deals in part with sexual violence, so I’d avoid if you’re sensitive to any of that, but as someone who’s picky about the inclusion of those elements I was really impressive by how she handled them.

Also if the sexual themes of Kushiel’s Dart put you off I am also really enjoying Starless right now; it’s by the same author, but a standalone and not about a masochistic sex worker, lol.

I also really enjoyed the Wolf Den Trilogy by Elodie Harper, which are historical fiction set in Rome and centered on enslaved women working in a brothel. (The actual sex is kept mostly off page, though.)

Or for something more action-packed, maybe David Gemmell’s Troy trilogy? Tons of action and memorable characters and I blew through them very quickly.

My last thought is the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, starting with My Brilliant Friend. There’s SO much happening in those books and they’re really well written.
