While I will forever love and cherish everything I've read toward my degrees in Classical Greek & Latin lit., I need to be reading other things, especially now that I finally have some time away from it. Will take most genres, preferably books with an enjoyable or lyrical voice.
Non-Classics books I've read that I've really enjoyed:
- House of Leaves by Danielewski
- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez
- The Myth of Sisyphus by Camus
- Les Miserables by Hugo
Classics I particularly enjoy (and would recommend!):
- Homer's Iliad (tr. Fitzgerald) — absolute favorite
- Seneca's Thyestes
- Aeschylus' Agamemnon
- Walcott's Omeros
Favorite themes:
- father/son conflict
- ancestral/generational curses
- large dysfunctional families
- cursed houses!
Greatly appreciate any and all recs! Come at me with your favorites, please! I wouldn't mind being recommended books that deviate from what I tend to read, either 🙂 TIA!
