Hello everyone, I've recently become actively interested in reading books, and I soon ordered an e-reader for myself to make it easier to read while out and about. I really enjoy psychological horror and body horror. I also enjoy books that, through the absurdity and immorality of their events, reveal deeper meaning and philosophical questions. For those who have been reading or are interested in similar genres for a while, could you recommend your favorite books in these genres?

    1. If you’re OK with a dark, brutal, epic fantasy series, check out The Second Apocalypse by R Scott Bakker, starting with **The Darkness That Comes Before**. Philosophical dark fantasy with lots of fucked up characters, violence, powerful magic. The first trilogy, The Prince of Nothing, follows a fantasy Holy War, modeled after the real world First Crusade, and the various characters and factions that get caught up in it. The second series, The Aspect Emperor, heads deeper into the fucked up lore and metaphysics of the world, gets darker and more epic. Beautifully-written, rich world building, *all* of the trigger warnings, awesome series.

If you’re not into fantasy, check out **Blood Meridian** by Cormac McCarthy.
