With as much as I tell people that I'm passionate about learning, I realize that I tend not to explore much outside the subjects I'm already familiar with and enjoy.
So since I'm sure most every field of study has at least one, tell me: what is THE definitive text in yours? And/or, what do you consider the best book to read? Multiple suggestions are encouraged where possible!
As hypothetical examples:
– (Western) comic art and theory: Understanding Comics, Scott McCloud
– Cooking: The Joy of Cooking ", Irma Rombauer
– Chaos magic: *Liber Null and Psychonaut, Peter J. Caroll
– Drawing: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Betty Edwards
I'm not looking for "Beginner's Guide to…" types necessarily, though I'm not opposed if applicable.
