You know those books that are exciting and promising but by the end they’ve lost steam and it almost feels like the author was tired? What are ones you’ve read like that. And, on the other side of the spectrum, what are books that from start to finish, the author succeeded in building the story kind of like the crescendo you’d hear in a symphony performance?
Mine:
Loses steam: for all of its hilarity and fun, the last few chapters of Jerome K. Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat feels like the author gave up.
And on the other end of the spectrum: almost anything by Agatha Christie, and I would say particularly The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Death one the Nile, but those are certainly not the only two that she accomplishes this with.
