i’m looking for books similar to ‘Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe’ by Fannie Flagg and ‘Rubyfruit Jungle’ by Rita-Mae Brown. ideally a book written by a woman with the main protagonist being a woman who loves women. i’m not looking for any romantasy, and while i loved ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,’ i’m looking for something more dated, with kind of that air of nostalgia to it. vintage or dated isn’t a requirement as long as it still feels nostalgic to a degree. i’m just looking for serious, passionate literature involving women who love women. thank you 🙂

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Patience and Sarah by Isabel Miller (Alma Routsong)

Maaaybe, Jericho by Ann McMahon (this is contemporary but has a slow burn small town vibe that could be nostalgic.)

    2. Cantoras by Caro de Robertis is a beautifully written book about gay women surviving the Uruguayan dictatorship starting in the 1970s; it may fit what you’re looking for.

    3. Have you read Atmosphere by TJR? I know that’s a newer release, but focuses on some of the first women in the space program and felt very nostalgic to me (although I also thought Evelyn Hugo’s focus on old Hollywood has a nostalgic quality, so maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re looking for)

    4. Just finished reading ‘Carol’ by Patricia Highsmith, it fits your criteria. Written in the 50s when such liaisons were taboo. Film based on the book has recently been made starring Cate Blanchett.
