Hey guys! i’m really torn between my fantasy book that I have in the works and a romance book. I feel like with fantasy you can do anything and it’s more original where romance almost everything has been done (but as a first time author romance is arguably easier than fantasy). If I did do a romance book, what are some tropes, themes, and stories that feel too overdone in your personal opinion? And what do you want to see more of? Thank you to anybody that answers. I just wanna get some data before I start work shopping the rest of my book! (this is not a self promotion, this book will take forever to get done between my daily life lol mods pls don’t flag me)

Honestly fantasy can be just as overdone as romance – how many chosen one stories do we really need lol. For romance I’d say avoid the “I’m not like other girls” protagonist and maybe ease up on the billionaire CEO thing unless you’ve got a really fresh take. Enemies to lovers is still solid gold though, people eat that up every time
