If you’re interested in a strange, almost dream-like world that is extremely unique then I would recommend Piranesi by Susanna Clark. It’s very light fantasy so no monsters and magic, but it’s a strange world that is essentially an infinite 3 story labyrinth with room after room filled with enormous sculptures that also contains an ocean inside it

Warbreaker by Sanderson is (as of right now) stand-alone. If you haven’t read anything by him, it’s a good example of his work. There’s a cool, logical magic system and the world building around it all makes sense for the story.

From the last year, Book of Love was beautiful magical realism and I just finished Katabasis which I absolutely adored as well.
