With this new age, I have an itch to read more self-help, self-improvement, and/or advice nonfiction books. I'm currently single with a lackluster love life and childless, though I do want to change both those things someday.
In terms of employment, I have a Master's degree in Library and Information Science, but I had to go back to temp work after I got laid off from my permanent part-time job in 2020. I know I'm not alone in that regard, which is as reassuring as it is sad. Fortunately, I was hired for a seasonal retail job over the holidays and, earlier this month, they asked me to stay on. Still, there are days I feel "stuck" and I want to read about others with similar experiences.
Has anyone else experienced something like what I'm going through? Did you read any books that helped you through it? Or do you know of any books that fit this criteria?

I turned 40 in 2025. Some nonfiction books I enjoyed in my mid thirties were:
– Professional Troublemaker – Luvvie Ajayi Jones
– It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way – Lysa TerKeurst
– Becoming – Michelle Obama
– The Glass Castle – Jeannette Walls
But if I’m being honest, what I really discovered in my 30s is that reading fiction for fun is what I was missing out on. I started not putting as much thought into my books in my 30s. My only real rule now is that I try to read women authors, minority women is a plus . I’ve discovered so many new authors and genres of books I never knew I liked before by just giving random books a try. If you don’t like it…don’t finish it! You make the rules. 🤗
The Power of Now – Eckhart Toll (short and powerful!)
Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One (on changing the way you think, creating the reality you want)
Not sure if you’re a woman, but I’m very excited to read Women Living Deliciously. It looks healing and fun ❤️
