*SUBCULTURE the meaning of style* by Dick Hebdige.
I believe its also the first nonfic ive ever finished. may not have understood all of it – it was arduous, and is an academic\scholarly work – but I feel accomplished. Piqued a lot of interest in further learnings on subculture, and cultural studies as well.

Nice one! Hebdige’s writing can be pretty dense but once it clicks it really opens up a whole new way of looking at how style communicates. Cultural studies is a rabbit hole worth going down – Stuart Hall’s stuff might be a good follow-up if you’re looking for more accessible reads in that area
