I enjoyed All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr-a tale set in WW2 of the French Resistance

    2. Come In Spinner by Dymphna Cusack. Probably unknown outside Australia and New Zealand, it is about Sydney during wartime, when it was awash with American armed forces personnel. It is considered an Australian classic and was made into an acclaimed television mini series. It was first published in 1951.

Sarah Sundin has some incredible stuff set during that time. The Wings of Glory trilogy is based on the Army Air Core. The Waves of Freedom trilogy is based on the Navy. She has other works as well.

H.E. Bates, Fair Stood the Wind for France – had to read it for my GCSE English and still love it. Ken Follett’s Hornet Flight or Eye of the Needle are great reads too.

Ken Follett has written several really enjoyable books on WWII.
A Woman of no importance by Sonia Purnell, is a non-fiction story about a female operative charged with building a resistance. The writing is ok, but the story is mind blowing!

    6. To the White Sea by James Dickey. There’s also a Coen Bros screenplay out there for it, which never made it to production.

Life after Life and A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. The former is my favourite book of all time, all about how small decisions can change our whole life course. It is only partly set during WWII, but the war plays a crucial part.

    8. I just finished Strangers in Time by David Baldacci, a good read as you would expect from the author set in wartime London. Its structure was different from most Blitz novels and the characters were very well developed.
