So, this is a very niche sort of plot in the apocalyptic genre, but I’m wondering if you know any apocalyptic novels where the event isn’t so much a real *apocalypse*, but more like an intelligent force dismantling society as we know it and forcing the inhabitants into a kind of cozy prison for its own safety. The only real example I’ve known and read before is Royce Day’s *For Your Safety* series, where a weather-predicting AI takes control of the world’s automated services, puts humans into heavily surveilled habitats, and later constructs a giant orbital habitat for everyone to live in while the Earth is re-terraformed. Some non-book examples I know about are *I Robot* (though it only happens during the climax and doesn’t last long), *Terminator Zero*, and *The Mitchells vs. the Machines* (animated film and still involves the threat of launching people into space, but still technically counts imo).
