So I'm a massive fan of thriller books but like OP said in a post I saw earlier, I over analyse everything and am suspicious of every character so that when the twist or killer is revealed at the end. I'm usually not that surprised as they've been on my suspect list at some point or other during the read. I love doing this and it's one of the reasons I enjoy reading twisty thrillers so much, same applies when I'm watching whodunnit and mystery films. I just wish I could be surprised more often.

I can think of 5 books off the top of my head that truly surprised me and made me put the book down for a minute while I took it in, and I'm wondering what books did this for you as I'd like to read them. I'm talking the great kind of twist that feels rewarded and makes you want to read the whole book back again but with a new perspective. Not a Freida "Never Lie" kind of twist that makes absolutely no sense if you were to reread (if you know you know).

    My 5 are:

Behind Her Eyes – Sarah Pinborough (didn't guess this until the page before the reveal, then it makes you look back at the whole story differently)

The Kind Worth Killing – Peter Swanson (read this years back now so not sure if it would still hold up the same, I was newish to reading thrillers at the time)

Dead Woman Walking – Sharon Bolton (highly recommend, great cat and mouse thriller that I've not seen recommended here)

The Liar – Steve Cavanagh (one part of this book regarding a certain character had my jaw on the floor)

    Twisted – Steve Cavanagh
