It doesn't necessarily have to be about the trials and tribulations of growing up a in a new place or being the new kid. Much more interested in the social, cultural, "political" intrigue and potential strangeness of it all. Amongst other aspects of moving to a new place; with it's own identity, "rituals", serects, mysterious, and even urban legends. And what it means for the people moving to a new location with their own baggage.

Check out “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – hits that whole “outsider discovers weird town secrets” vibe perfectly. The MC goes to this creepy English family’s mansion in rural Mexico and slowly uncovers all sorts of disturbing stuff about the place and its history
