let me explain that I read most of the novels in French ! and the only ones I read in English were lightnovels and webnovels, so forgive my grammar.
I want to go back and read books( specifically fantasy , but I like a good story), but reading that Assassin's apprentice a long time ago made me hate reading.
Putting it simply… the story make you care about the protagonist love life throughout the story ( not like it matters) , and end it with him witnessing his girl and his father-like-figure having sex ( because they thought he died or whatever) and instead of him moving on the story make him go back after many years and ending up with the same girl after she married his father and having so much children with him ( the father ends up dead )….
I am sorry. I know some of you, if not all of you, will not understand me, but I live the stories I read about, and that was painful to me. I stopped reading and switched to movies and Japanese LN. I thought I was reading a fantasy story, not some twisted romance drama BS. Even the title suggests an adventure…
So I want a story without an ending like this if you know some.

The Curse of Chalion is really good, and it’s available in French. The author has written many more books of fantasy and science fiction.
What books, movies, or TV series have you enjoyed? It sounds like you’re looking for an adventure with little to no romance, is that right? There are so many books that fit the bill, if so. First Law comes to mind as an example.
On the other hand if you’re looking for something with little to no pain/misery, you might try cozy fantasy or sci-fi like Psalm For The Wild Built.
