I really enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie book series. I'm looking for something with a similar vibe, but for adults. However I am not interested in a romance story. It doesn't have to be Little House related, I just like the time period, the hardships, the daily grind, going from nothing to home/farm.
I've found some books but they all seem to heavily feature either a romance plotline, or violence/war with the Natives. I don't mind if it's part of the story, I mean it belongs in the time period of course, I just don't enjoy it as the main focus.
I'm currently reading "Caroline: Little House, Revisited", which tells the original story from Caroline's POV. I like it, although it's a bit sappy and trembling bosom-y sometimes. I've considered Pioneer Girl, but that seems to be a bit too boringly historical when I'm just looking for a casual read.
I like books that describe the normal everyday life, the hardships, the cooking and farming, living in and with nature, animals, etc.
