I’m going to a book fair tomorrow and would love some book recommendations.

I’ve mostly read thrillers in the past, so I’m trying not to buy any thrillers this time. I really want to explore fantasy, classics, and romance instead — especially books that many people rate ★★★★★.

For romance, I loved Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter.
For fantasy, I haven’t read much yet (I do own Six of Crows but haven’t started it).
For classics, I honestly haven’t read any, so beginner-friendly ones with high ratings would be great.

Also, my favorite book of 2025 was Circe by Madeline Miller, so I clearly enjoy emotional, character-driven stories too.

I’d really appreciate any must-buy, highly-rated (5★) suggestions in these genres for someone just getting into them.

    1. I just started reading Frankenstein and am putting a unique copy of it on my list of things to look out for.

      Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

      Uprooted by Naomi Novik

The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec

    3. Maybe not 5 Stars for everyone, but i think for Romance both Carrie Soto is Back & Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid are good reads and great settings, I always enjoy them. I also love the Time Traveler’s wife by Audrey Niffenegger, haven’t re-read it for a while though I’m sure it stands up. If you want something very fun and popcorny, Book Lovers by Emily Henry.

For fantasy, anything by Robert Jackson Bennett, his latest series The Tainted cup and Drop of Corruption, are mysteries set in a unique fantasy world. His world building is amazing, and I love his other series too. If you want something more fantasy-dragons,

Not fantasy, sci-fi but some of my top books – The Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers, starting with a Long way to a small, angry, planet. Or Murderbot. I feel like Murderbot is quite character driven in a different way LOL
