I’ve recently emerged from a psychological thriller/ murder mystery funk. I’m sick of them rn, and I want to find one of those profound books that inflicts pain. I want to find THE book that you sob over, snot dripping down your face type of cry. I want to be upset over it for years to come. In fact, I don’t ever want to recover from it. Sprinkle some trauma on me! Any genre is fine just make sure it has really cut you deep 🙂 please and thanks!

I don’t think I ever cried as much as I did when reading Call Me By Your Name
Flowers for Algernon absolutely destroyed me and I’m still not okay about it like 3 years later. That book should come with a warning label honestly
I honestly haven’t read it yet, but my friends and sisters are reading The Last Letter and they talk about how it’s really sad in the end. They are also making a movie adaptation of it
A Thousand Splendid Suns and
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Push by Audrey Audrain had me feeling palpable pain in some parts.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (the life of a girl in nazi Germany), The Way Out by B. Fox (two strangers turning into friwnds in a prison setting), Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes (a retarded man turned smart by an experimental operation). Probably the three that left me hurting the most.
Time Travelers Wife had me sobbing on the train
Well “fault in our stars” ( specifically the BOOK) gave me a pretty good cry and lasted with me for a very long time..so can also give it a try
The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller hands down. I am not a big crier but omg
