I am currently trying to move into reading more historical non-fiction but I think I am programmed to read fiction and I was hoping to find a good true story to help me enter into the historical non-fiction world.
I have been recently watching videos on Imperial Russia, the Romanovs,Fabergé, etc and there is so much drama to the era and I would love to find a book that discusses that potentially?
What non-fictional books do you recommend (doesn’t need to be about imperial Russia) that are so exciting that it feels like fiction? Thank you Reddit!!

You might be interested in books that look at historical events from a single person’s perspective, like *Stranger In The Shogun’s City*
Barbara Tuchman wrote great narrative histories that read like novels.
Erik Larson is the answer. His books are incredible and feel like reading fiction. Pick whichever one appeals to you. Dead Wake is amazing favourite of mine as is The Devil in the White City.
The Devil’s Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
Check out the works of David Granny. *Killers of the Flower Moon* and *The Wager* are the two I’ve read but I’d assume they’re all good.
Laura Hillenbrand’s book Unbroken is in the category, but about WW II in the Pacific
Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe
