    Hey everyone,

I (F, 23) am taking a “Women in American Literature from the 20th century” class this semester. For the class, we have to choose an author in this genre and write an in-depth research paper. I'm having a hard time figuring out which author would be the most fun for me. To be honest, most of my favorites are from a different time period/male. Any unique/less popular recommendations?

My favorite Authors are: Dostoyevsky, Steinbeck, Tolstoy, and Charlotte Brontë.

Classic female American authors I've read: Virginia Wolfe, Margaret Atwood, Sylvia Plath, and Toni Morrison.

Ellen Glasgow is a great writer who has been unjustly forgotten. (Also, Virginia Woolf is English and Margaret Atwood is Canadian.)

    4. What about Octavia Butler? Most of her works were published in the 20th century. A few works were published in the early 21st century.

I love Steinbeck, too! These authors might feel similar: Willa Cather, Barbara Kingsolver, Louise Erdrich, Leslie Marmon Silko
