Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. There’s a scene in it that made me snot sob, and it’s haunted me ever since.

I haven’t read Song of Achilles, and I didn’t like A Little Life, but my answer to this question is always Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison. Admittedly, it didn’t make me sob, but no book has ever made me sob. It is, however, the only book in my 45 years that has brought tears to my eyes.

A Monster Calls by Siobhan Dowd and Patrick Ness. Siobhan came up with the initial storyline, but passed away before she could write it, so Patrick Ness completed the work.
