My baby has decided sleep is for the weak so I am currently spending a LOT of the night time rocking her. Bonus is plenty of reading time but the downside is I am very sleep deprived. A lot of my tbr list is in depth historical fiction with lots of characters and complicated plots and I know I don't have the brain power for those right now.

So I'm after recommendations of easy reads, but it needs to be something well written (no trashy rom-com beach read type books)

I'm open to most lengths, genres and styles, but not horror please (I'm a sensitive soul and I don't need anything to make me lose even more sleep!)

    Thank you!

    1. The Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas. The writing isn’t dazzling or anything but it’s quite solid, the characterization is great, the romance aspect isn’t cloying, and the mysteries are fun but almost secondary.

      Tress of the Emerald Sea

It has a fairytale feel to it, it’s fun but not too long or complicated

Grave Expectations by Alice Bell. Nice little cozy mystery within a supernatural twist

    5. Any of Richard Osman’s cosy crime novels might work.

T.J. Clunes The House in the cerulean sea is feel-good, touching and not too complicated.

The Beartown series by Fredrik Backman.

Ok, I’ve got your back. I did just the same thing when my daughter was born—I need something to read that keeps me awake and engaged while she’s up, but not so exciting that I can’t go back to bed if/when she miraculously ever decided to go back to sleep!

The best thing that worked for me were books I had read as a child but hadn’t read in a long time. I got a lot of mileage out of the Little House and the Anne of Green Gables series. If you haven’t read them, they should be tame enough to be safe. 🙂

Other ideas that are lightly historical and don’t take much brainpower:

      The Betsy-Tacy Series

The Emma M. Lion Series by Beth Brower

The Books of Bayern (The Goose Girl) by Shannon Hale (these do get a little exciting at times)

      The Narnia books

I really think children’s books are the way to go because they’re simple and meaningful, thoughtful but not too demanding.

I quite like Kevin Wilson’s books when I want an easy listen but that still has depth. They are a bit quirky too which keeps it interesting and engaging. Nothing to See Here is my favourite.

Also agree with another poster who recommended The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion by Beth Brower. By far my favourite audiobook series. I just finished the current volume and may just go back to the start.
