hi! i LOVE sci-fi and fantasy, but i have tried some of the most popular series (acotar and fourth wing) and just dont like them. my problems are mainly with the writing – bad dialogue, every 20 pages the same issues are brought up, the main character reciting history for the reader to understand, and the main character’s inner monologue predicting everything so the reader cannot make their own conclusions/thoughts. sorry for the little rant, but i love the world building, magic, and all that so i want to find a good series for my liking. i so like some romance aspects if its done in a mature way and i LOVE the history of fantasy worlds and the politics. i want to be attached to each side character introduced and feel strong emotions if a character dies, leaves, or betrays. if anyone has good suggestions please let me know!

    1. AlmostEndurable on

Dude you need to check out Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series, starting with Assassin’s Apprentice. The character writing is insane and you’ll actually cry when bad things happen to people. Also maybe try The Poppy War by RF Kuang – super dark but the politics and worldbuilding are chef’s kiss

    2. Check out the Green Bone Saga! It fits a lot of your criteria.

Also the Shades of Magic series!

They’re very different from each other, but both are closer to what you’re looking for than ACOTAR.
