I finished Red Rising and right now i'm struggling to pick my next book. Finishing the new Red Rising books helped me get back into reading but right now i'm a little lost. I read the audibook version of the first DCC but i felt like the characters are pretty flat and didnt liked the prose so the fights were boring too. Usually i'm more into dialogue than fights but i enjoyed the action in Red rising.

A lot of people recommending Will of the Many after Red rising but it feels to similar to me almost like a rip off but i didnt read it so maybe i'm exaggerating. I don't want to read something similar just something equally good.

I like character focused storys and i love romance but only as a side plot. I'm ok with dark stories but not something where everything always ends in a bad way. I like dark stories where the dark themes makes the mc – s succeses and hope all the more meaningful and well earned.

What i remember i read and liked:

    -The name of the wind

    -Song of ice and fire

And probably a lot of other stuff but i'm not an active reader for a few years so i don't remember.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    1. **The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells** are quick and very fun reads (actually the new TV series captures a lot more of the feeling of th ebooks than I could have hoped, and I really enjoyed season 1 even after reading hte whole series.) Book 1 is titled **All Systems Red**.

The **Bobiverse** series by **Dennis Taylor**

I really enjoyed the other books by **Andy Wier** (in addition to The Martian), **Project Hail Mary** and **Atremis** They can be over recommended sometimes (and he does polarize some readers) but they are well written imo.

    2. So I’ve read both TWOTM and Red Rising and while I get the comps, I actually don’t think they’re very similar at all, for what it’s worth.

I haven’t read it, but I know people who love Red Rising also love the Suneater series.

It’s my favorite series so I’m biased, but I actually think the Daevabad trilogy meets your criteria. It’s got side romance and the characters and their relationships are a big part of the plot.

Finally, the Greenbone Saga could be a good fit for you as well. It’s SUPER character focused. It’s slower than Red Rising, but sounds like you may be OK with that?
