hi all! i’m finding it surprisingly hard to find a book that will scratch this itch – something featuring some anthropomorphized forest critters! i love the cozy vibe of animal characters interacting over the course of the seasons.
• woodland animal POV
• similar to miss hickory by carolyn sherwin bailey and the wind in the willows by kenneth grahame
• i just started reading tove jansson’s moomin novellas – looking for a similar vibe to this, but preferably less fantastical
• not picture books – childrens chapter books are fine, but i’m looking for a substantial story
thank you 🙂

Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson
Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem
The Tale of Little Pig Robinson by Beatrix Potter (it’s way longer than the Peter Rabbit stuff, more of a novella)
I’m sure some people will comment Redwall but that’s really not a cozy book, it’s surprisingly violent for a children’s novel.
Slewfoot by Brom has some of this. As does Winterset Hollow by JE Durham. Both are dark fantasy/horror, though. I consider both to be cozy reads, but ymmv :).
Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH – Robert C O’Brien
Shady Hallow series by Juneau Black
North woods kind of has this but not everyone’s cup of tea
Definitely the Shady Hollow books! It’s like if Wind in the Willows was a cozy mystery series. Big emphasis on seasonal vibes as well
Completely different spin, fantasy, whimsical and heartfelt, The House in the Cerulean Sea and sequel.
The Redwall series has a lot of critter POVs. There’s conflict, but also a lot of fun character interaction.
