I am looking for books or authors similar to Christopher Moore or Carl Hiaasen. Something humorous but some depth, romance is ok – but no rom-coms or sickly sweet. Dark humor is good. Something set in our world/universe is preferred but fantasy or sci fi are okay if done well. Murderbot series was funny but felt like it was not quite enough. And I’ve tried Terry Pratchett but haven’t been able to get into his books, but I might not have tried the right one. TIA!

Guards!Guards! And Mort are going to be some very funny yet have depth for Pratchett. I would check out Nicholas Eames’ book Kings of the Wyld, it’s funny with a great plot and dense world, it’s like D&D one shot, you don’t have to read any other books from the series, it’s a great standalone with a conclusion.

    2. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is pretty hilarious. Jeff Strand is also really funny if you like horror comedy. His novelization of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was hilarious.

    3. Jodi Taylor’s books, especially in audiobook form are funny. Involves time traveling historians.

    4. Hap and Leonard books by Joe R. Lansdale

Parker novels by Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake) are gritty/noir with some dark funny and he forks into lighter funny with his Grofield series (which I read because I missed Parker). Finally he goes anti-Parker funny first with his Dortmunder series (written as Westlake)

The industry and witches lines of discworld are my favorites but like British TV comedies it doesn’t always hit for folks
