I am looking for a book to take on vacation next week. I live in Minneapolis, and am currently reading Wolf Hall, but finding I need something more escapist/light given the current state of my city. I am heading to Florida, so looking for 1-2 books that are good vacation reads.
However, I am typically a literary fiction person, also enjoy nonfiction, but I need something that is well written. I do not like YA, romance, romantasy (or any fantasy really). I do like historical fiction, mystery/thrillers (big Tana French fan) and some science fiction. Typically I am pretty into "heavy" books that include commentary on the state of the world….but that's not what I'm craving right now.
For reference, the last few books I have really enjoyed are Mystic River, I Who Have Never Known Men, Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels (love/hate relationship with those), anything by Barbara Kingsolver, and Cloud Cuckoo Land. I do enjoy a good Tana French, Louise Penny on occasion, and love a good Nordic Noir..
Who has a suggestion for a good, well-written book I can just escape into for a few weeks?
