I am currently about a third of the way in and getting more and more attached. It's shaping up to be the kind of book you miss bed time for, ramping up the mystery as life unfolds. It is slowly and cleverly done.

However, I made this post because there seems to be a mistake at the beginning of the second chapter and my brain can't let it go!

The three are together by the pool, they very clearly know each other at this point, and the text says "She starts in fifth grade in two months' time." Then, two pages later, the text says "The three of them had met ten months earlier, in the yard of the École Pasteur, on the first day of fifth grade."

Anyone else notice this? Is it in the original French as well? Is it a genuine mistake or am I missing something? I understand there are time jumps but all three characters are very clearly interacting in the first instance.
