One of my favorite books from 2025 was The Antidote. It took me a long time to decide to read it because there was no summary that made it sound exciting. But it was *amazing.* It takes place during the Dust Bowl in a fictional town. There’s a prairie witch with a unique talent which ends up being an import allegory for our entire country and history. There’s a teenage female basketball player. There’s a traveling Black photographer. A scarecrow that’s probably not just a scarecrow. A real bad cop. And the most tender hearted grandpa that ever was. Magical realism, community, purpose, plot…it is so good.

As someone who went to culinary school, I might be biased, but “Crying in H Mart” by Michelle Zauner hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a memoir about food, grief, and the connection between a daughter and her mother. I read it while traveling last summer and found myself sobbing at the airport. Every page feels so raw and honest.
