I just finished Salem’s Lot, as well as its short story prequel, Jerusalem’s Lot. I enjoyed Jerusalem’s lot *far* more than Salem’s Lot, with its dark, mysterious, cosmic and lovecraftian horror.
I’ve never read Lovecraft, so his works are the obvious suggestion, but I remember trying to read his works and finding it hard to understand. Are there any good, modern books that are similar?

Check out The Fisherman by John Langan – it’s got that cosmic dread but written in a way that’s actually digestible for modern readers. Also Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer hits those Lovecraftian vibes without the purple prose overload
have you checked out “the fisherman” by John langan?
