I was a big reader as a kid, but fell out of love with the hobby as an adult. I'm looking to get back into it but I'm not familiar with what's popular. Could you help me get a bit more "in the know" about this fairly specific genre so I can catch up with the times?
To clarify what I mean by each of the terms in the title (as many have different opinions on what each word may mean):
- Heroic – I want a story where the protagonist(s) is a hero who generally does good things
- Fantasy – swords and sorcery, less how Star Wars is technically fantasy and more how D&D is fantasy if that makes sense
- Adventure – The characters are going and actively doing something
- Thriller – a page turner; generally is a shorter, fast paced novel (I've recently finished several 600+ page books, and I could really use a break from that)
- Modern – preferably books from this century (not throwing hate at older novels, just been reading a lot of more classic literature and would like to see more of what's been written in more recent years)
